Eye On Annapolis: Retired Rear Admiral Frank Thorp Announces Candidacy for Annapolis Ward 8 Alderman

Retired Rear Admiral Frank Thorp has declared his candidacy for the Ward 8 Alderman seat in Annapolis. Thorp, a 1981 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, served as the Navy’s Chief of Information and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense during his distinguished 28-year military career. Following his retirement, he held senior positions in both the corporate and non-profit sectors, including serving as President & CEO of the U.S. Navy Memorial.


A lifelong Annapolis resident, Thorp has been actively involved in the community, notably as a board member of the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park since 2019.


Thorp’s campaign will focus on leveraging his extensive leadership experience to address local issues and enhance the quality of life for Ward 8 residents.


An official campaign kickoff event is scheduled for January 12, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park, located at 723 Second Street, Annapolis, MD 21403. Community members are invited to attend and learn more about Thorp’s vision for the ward. Please RSVP to anne@frank4ward8.com.

The Ward 8 seat is currently held by Alderman Ross Arnett, who has not announced if he is going to seek an additional term. Additionally, Eastport resident, Will Cunha has announced an Independent run for the seat.
