PRIORITIES

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustaining the history and vibrancy of our community is a daily challenge. We care about Eastport – the place where we live, work and play. As your alderman, I will work to balance preserving what we love about our community and what we need to improve through smart development.

  • Maritime: Eastport’s uniqueness is founded on a thriving maritime industry. To keep maritime business in Eastport, I will ensure the City Code is clear and unambiguous, our successful maritime zones continue to thrive, and the Annapolis Maritime Resilience Initiative effectively deals with sea level rise issues that impact Eastport.

  • City Budget: We need a City budget that matches residents’ priorities. I will study each budget line and fight to fund Eastport’s priorities, such as those listed below.

  • Water Access: As part of our maritime culture, it is critical to maintain the health of our creeks and ensure residents have access to the water. I will maintain and improve water access while working with local watershed groups to improve water quality and promote resilience to environmental challenges.

  • Neighborhoods: Community character in Eastport is important to all of us. We need to find the right balance of short-term and long-term rental housing that makes sense for Eastport. We know we need affordable housing to relieve housing pressure. I will work to find solutions and support new initiatives while balancing Eastport’s community character.

COMMUNITY NEEDS

The citizens of Eastport deserve effective public services. Every day as your alderman I will ask myself – what should the City be doing for you and how can we improve the services being provided by the City.

  • Public Services: Public services, including public safety, traffic, zoning and parking, are critical areas of concern throughout Eastport. We need to implement viable solutions provided in approved City studies that address each of these concerns. I have read these studies and, as your alderman, I will prioritize their implementation.

  • Pedestrian Safety: Walking in Eastport is a tradition near and dear to my heart, but pedestrian travel in Eastport is too challenging. I will focus on improving pedestrian safety in Eastport. I will push to implement the Eastport Traffic Study that makes viable recommendations to improve pedestrian safety.

  • Permitting: There’s consensus amongst Eastport residents and business owners – the permitting process is painfully laborious. We need clear and unambiguous City Code and City government agencies that respond efficiently and effectively in the permitting process. I will commit myself to identifying weaknesses in the system and work hard to repair them.

CITY CULTURE

City culture is critical to getting the type of City Code and municipal government that Eastport residents expect and deserve. We need to put residents first in all decisions and actions we take. I will work to ensure the City works for residents – serving their needs with an eye on serving the greater good.

  • Customer Service: As your alderman I will respond to your concerns. I will also work to bring a City culture of customer service by providing City staff with the tools needed to improve such service.

  • City Code for the Residents: Our City Code is complex and needs to be continually improved so the laws favor the residents. I will take every opportunity to introduce legislation to sustain our Eastport way of life.

  • Uniform City Code Enforcement: Well-run municipalities adhere to their City Code. I will fight to ensure our Code reflects the vision of our residents and is uniformly applied and enforced.
